The majority of SME owners are looking for advanced CCTV and video surveillance to help tackle the threat of theft and loss, according to a new survey.

The survey of small businesses in the UK shows that 84 per cent of retail, office and hospitality owners are looking for video surveillance that has high-resolution imagery and can be accessed from remote locations.

Of course, security is of principal importance to businesses of all sizes, but the research by AXIS Communication was undertaken to understand the key challenges and requirements for small business owners and the self-employed when it comes to protecting their premises.

High-quality images and the ability to access footage remotely from a smart phone, tablet or laptop were the most desirable features, but 70 per cent also craved an easy to use system.

What small business owners want from their video surveillance:

  • Remote access
  • High-quality images
  • Ease of use
  • Reliability

The general consensus from the survey is that current surveillance solutions do not provide the necessary proof of crime. With the advancements in technology, CCTV and surveillance should be something that business owners can rely on to support claims and disputes.
