The bottling arm of the Coca-Cola company, Coca-Cola HBC has pledged to halve the 2010 emissions rate by the end of the decade.

In the latest sustainability update for 2020, Coca-Cola has committed to reducing direct energy consumption by 50 per cent. The company achieved a 10 per cent renewable electricity consumption following the installation of solar PVs. This suggests more renewable adoptions up until 2020.

“The ambitious targets we announce today reflect our commitment to inspire a better future for our people and the communities we serve,” comments Dimitris Lois, chief executive officer at Coca-Cola HBHC. “We are determined to grow our business responsibly, profitably and sustainably.”

Coca-Cola’s global carbon footprint has been reduced by 1.07 million tonnes in the past five years because of energy efficient installations and low-carbon technologies. Having sustainability run through the core of the company is now more important than ever – these messages pass down to consumers and can ultimately influence buying decisions.

Development of new technologies and renewable energy has given businesses a wider choice in how they set up and run their energy strategies. Using renewable sources of energy enables businesses to reduce their carbon footprints, lower costs and position themselves as responsible.
