Electrical Safety First research has revealed that the safety of both properties and their owners is at risk due to feeling too embarrassed to ask if their electrician is registered.
The charity has recently launched a major consumer campaign in order to raise awareness of the benefits of using a registered electrician over an unregistered one. The campaign was thought up following an investigation which showed that asking an electrician for proof of professional registration is one of the top 3 most awkward questions the public avoid asking.
Requesting proof of an electrician’s registration
Commenting on the new campaign, Director General of Electrical Safety First, Phil Buckle said: “While most of us claim to use registered tradespeople, only one in five of us actually request proof.”
“It seems that British ‘awkwardness’ is a real barrier when it comes to checking that an electrician is safe to work on your home. But with more than half of all domestic fires in the UK arising from electricity – which also causes 350,000 serious accidents each year – ensuring your electrician is registered could end up saving your life.”
Ensuring that you have a registered electrician is not only important for domestic property owners, but those who look after commercial properties also. Eaton Electrical are NICEIC approved electrical contractors, and are experts in everything from commercial electrical installation to testing, heritage work to project management.
