As Guy Fawkes Night approaches, bonfire organisers are being advised to check for power lines and electrical apparatus when planning firework displays and building bonfires – maximising bonfire night safety.

bonfire night safetyWilliam Eaton, Managing Director at Eaton Electrical says “A lot of businesses think that electrical problems can only occur from within the office. However, more so than any other time of the year, problems can occur just as frequently from outside. Safety is the most important thing to think about on bonfire night.”

Advice about temporary lighting structures

Western Power Distribution’s (WPD) safety advisors echo these thoughts and are urging people to keep the displays well away from any electrical apparatus.

WPD’s safety and training manager Lee Wallace said “Safety is our number one priority and people should always be vigilant and carry out some quick checks of their surroundings so that everyone stays safe when the displays take place.”

“If you’re installing temporary structures ‘look up and look out’ and ovoid overhead lines. Electricity can jump gaps, so it’s important to stay well clear.”
