With Electrical Fire Safety Week taking place this week (10th- 16th November), Eaton Electrical are encouraging all home owners, office managers and premises owners to follow these dos and don’ts to help promote electrical safety.
Electrical Fire Safety Week
Do:
- Regularly check the condition of your electrical wiring. If you are renting a property or premises then this is your landlord’s responsibility – you can request to see a copy of the certificate that proves electrics meet the BS 7671 standards.
- Check sockets regularly.
- Turn off all electrical equipment when it is not being used, especially at night when appliances are unattended for long periods of time.
- Check flexible cables, looking for fraying, wear and tear, or loose plugs.
- Check the current rating of electrical adaptors before plugging further appliances in.
Don’t:
- Overload adaptors or sockets.
- Cover air vents on storage or fan heaters.
- Trail cables underneath carpets or rugs as they can easily get frayed or torn.
- Store combustible materials such as paper or cleaning materials, near to a service head, electricity metre, or fuse box.
