A fire which destroyed the majority of a former factory site in Leicester was caused by an electrical fault, according to fire investigators.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said “The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault in the wiring.”

Early reports suggest that the inferno began in a recycling centre within the site before spreading to other business units, including a sofa storage unit, a mattress company and a vehicle storage business.

The extent of the fire resulted in homeowners surrounding the complex being evacuated and has left a range of businesses factories unable to work.
