International home improvement firm Kingfisher, whose brand include B&Q and Screwfix, has unveiled plans for a £50m investment into renewable energy to reduce their energy consumption.

The investment will aid Kingfisher’s plans to reduce their energy consumption from the grid by 10% in the next two years.

To reach the target, the company will showcase photovoltaic (PV) solar panels across selected stores in the UK and France. Further plans are for the panels to be implemented across the 10 countries where Kingfisher operates.

Richard Gillies, sustainability director said “we hope that our renewable investment helps demonstrate to the world’s leaders discussing that leading businesses want a sustainable future. This renewables investment is part of our Net Positive journey to transform our business to be a force for good.”

The Net Positive movement, which Kingfisher led, urges companies to redesign how they operate in order to improve their impact on the environment.
